Water at 26–28 grains per gallon
The industry calls anything above 10.5 grains very hard and mostly stops grading above 15. Lake in the Hills publishes 26–28, and the rest of the county sits in the same band. It is roughly six times the national average, and it is why water heaters here fail early, why fixtures scale, and why a softener is equipment rather than a luxury.
