Hydro Jetting in Algonquin, IL

In Old Town and on the streets dropping toward the Fox, it is roots in clay tile. In Willoughby Farms, Terrace Hill, Creeks Crossing and Grand Reserve, the laterals are PVC and perfectly sound — what fills them is twenty-five years of kitchen grease riding on top of extremely hard water.
Roots above the river, grease west of Randall
The Old Town laterals have the usual clay-tile problem: a joint every few feet, mature parkway trees above them, and soil that stays damp because the ground drains toward the river rather than away from it. Those lines back up on a cycle, and cabling resets the clock without resetting the pipe.
The west-side subdivisions almost never have a root problem, and homeowners there are often told their recurring slow kitchen drain is a venting issue. Usually it is not. Grease cooled by hard water forms a hard, chalky deposit that narrows the line steadily, and it does not respond to a cable at all because there is nothing to cut — it is lining the whole circumference.
What we find doing this work in Algonquin
A slow kitchen line in a 1998 house is almost always grease
PVC that age is not collapsing. If the line drains slowly and nothing you pour down it helps for more than a week, the bore has narrowed and the only thing that restores it is scouring the walls.
Hard water makes grease worse here than elsewhere
At 26 to 28 grains per gallon, the calcium in our water binds with cooking fat into a deposit that is closer to soap scale than to soft grease. It sets harder and it sticks better than grease alone, which is why Algonquin kitchen lines re-clog faster than the same house would in a soft-water town.
River-slope homes get the whole package
On the lower streets we see saturated soil, root intrusion and heavier groundwater infiltration into old joints in the same line. Jetting clears it, but the camera afterwards is what tells you whether the joints are still doing their job.
We are close enough to camera it without a trip charge debate
Algonquin is our nearest town. If you are not sure whether you need jetting or just a cable, a camera run is a short visit rather than an expedition, and it is the cheapest way to avoid paying for the wrong service.

Reading the symptom before you call
Because Algonquin splits so cleanly between Old Town and the west side, the symptom usually tells us which half of the problem we are dealing with before we see the house.
- Whole house slows and the basement floor drain shows water first — main line. In Old Town that means roots; west of Randall it is more often accumulated grease.
- Kitchen sink alone, getting gradually worse over years, in a 1990s or 2000s house — hardened grease in the branch. A cable will not help much because there is nothing to cut.
- Backups that follow heavy rain on a river-slope street — groundwater is infiltrating old joints and using up what capacity the line has left.
- A single slow bathroom fixture with everything else normal — almost always local to that fixture, and not a jetting job at all.
Keeping a west-side kitchen line clear afterwards
Once a grease line is scoured back to full bore, the question is how long it stays that way, and that is partly in your hands. Nothing you pour down the drain removes an existing deposit, but what goes down it decides how fast the next one builds.
Hot water does not solve it — it moves the fat a few feet further along and it cools and sets there instead. Our water makes that worse than it would be elsewhere, because dissolved calcium binds with the fat into something closer to soap scale than grease.
A properly sized softener genuinely slows the rebuild. It is not the main reason to install one, but in Algonquin water it is a real secondary benefit, and it is worth knowing if you are already weighing one up for the water heater.
What it costs in Algonquin
The two sides of town price differently because the work is different. A grease line in a west-side subdivision is usually a single accessible run and a predictable job. An Old Town root line may need more passes, and the camera may find a reason not to jet at all. Access is the other variable — an outside clean-out at grade is straightforward, a line only reachable by pulling a fixture is not. You get the number before we start either way.

Hydro Jetting questions from Algonquin
How quickly can you get to Algonquin?
It is the closest town to our shop, a couple of miles. For a scheduled jetting that means a real appointment window rather than a day-long one, and for an emergency backup it means we are among the fastest options you have.
My house is from 1999. Can I really have a drain problem already?
Yes, and it will not be the pipe. Twenty-five years of grease in hard water narrows a kitchen line considerably. The pipe is fine; what is inside it is not.
Is jetting worth it if I just had the line cabled?
If you are in Old Town and the backups are getting closer together, yes — cabling has not been removing the roots. If you are west of Randall and the cable did not help much, that is because there was nothing for it to cut.
Do you camera the line as part of the job?
We camera before jetting, always. Jetting a line that has a collapsed section wastes your money, and we would rather know first. You see the screen while we are in there.
